Privacy Policy
Mousetrap: Say Cheese · Effective 3 November 2026
Mousetrap collects no data. It has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and it never sends your photos, your selfies or anything about you to us or to anyone else. Everything it does happens on your iPhone.
The photos and videos you show
Mousetrap only sees the photos and videos you choose, either in the iOS photo picker or by sharing them to Mousetrap from another app. It reads them on your iPhone to show them, along with their date and, if they have one, the place they were taken. Items shared from another app are copied into a temporary folder that only Mousetrap can read, and deleted as soon as they're loaded. Nothing is uploaded or kept after you close the viewer.
The camera and the selfies it takes
When the viewer is open in selfie mode, Mousetrap uses the front camera so it can take a picture the moment someone swipes past the photos you chose. iOS shows its green camera indicator whenever the camera is on. Camera frames are never recorded or saved: Mousetrap keeps only the single picture it takes when someone swipes too far.
Those selfies stay in your iPhone's memory and disappear when you close the Busted screen, unless you choose to save them to your photo library or share them yourself. Mousetrap never sends them anywhere.
The selfies are of whoever is holding your phone. Please use Mousetrap kindly, with people you know, and in line with the laws where you live.
Location
If you turn on Show location and allow location access, Mousetrap shows the place each photo was taken and the place your iPhone is when someone gets caught. To turn coordinates into a place name such as "Bondi Beach", iOS asks Apple's location service, under Apple's privacy policy. Mousetrap itself doesn't store your location or send it anywhere. You can turn Show location off in Mousetrap's settings, or turn off location access in the iOS Settings app.
Face ID, Touch ID and your passcode
Closing the viewer asks for your Face ID, Touch ID or passcode. iOS handles this check and only tells Mousetrap whether it succeeded. Mousetrap never sees your face data, fingerprint or passcode.
Your settings
Your settings, and the custom image if you choose one, are stored on your iPhone only. Deleting Mousetrap deletes them.
Children
Mousetrap collects no information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
